Borrelly Ondufil Gap Wave Springs

gap wave spring

Adapted to a variety of uses and technical needs, Borrelly’s gap wave springs are compatible with applications involving low-to-medium forces and small deflections with very limited axial space.

We design, engineer and manufacture gap type wave springs of the highest quality, available in a wide range of bore and rod diameters, thicknesses, load tolerances and number of waves.

Our gap type single turn wave springs can be ordered from stock among our standard and precision ranges, available in both carbon and stainless steel from10mm to 500mm diameters, or custom-made upon request.

Custom gap wave springs

Thanks to its extensive experience and technical expertise, our Engineering & Design Department can help you in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of custom gap wave springs meeting your technical requirements, whether they are for protypes, limited series or large runs. Our production workshop, fully integrated with production equipment designed and developed by Borrelly, can produce your own custom wave spring in a very short amount of time.

Technical description

Gap wave springs are a type of spring washers with split ends, made by simultaneously rolling and corrugating a flat wire.

Gap type wave springs such as the Ondufil can act as an alternative to wave washers. They can be centered in a bore and even allow a slight tightening. No matter the crushing height, their diameter does not vary.

This type of Borrelly Ondufil Wave Springs is particularly appropriate for applications with narrow radial wall dimensions and low clearances as well as to accommodate ball or roller bearings. They contribute to significantly reducing the number of mechanisms of an assembly and enable gains in axial space.

  • Suitable for highly limited axial and radial spaces
  • Able to provide a consistent level of force
  • Capable of withstanding a large amplitude of thrust loads and forces
  • Available in many diameters, thicknesses, materials and finishes
  • Generating minimal material waster
  • Can easily be produced in large and very large series
  • Wave spring manufacturer for 90+ years

Gap wave springs are a trusted solution for many cases of applications, including the preloading of ball bearings and locking of rings.

Bearing preload

Gap wave springs are commonly used to eliminate excessive space, also called play, between the ball bearings and the bearings’ inner and outer races. They allow for the balls to be in contact with the bearing and prevent vibrations by exerting constant pressure on one of the two rings. They also help minimize bearing noise and prolong bearing life. Electric engines, pumps and twist lock connectors are some examples of devices using gap type wave springs.

Locking of rings

Gap wave springs can also be found in bayonets multi-pin connectors to assume a locking function on the ring and prevent vibrations or loosening from the quarter turn ring.
