Borrelly Ondufil Overlap Wave Spring Washers

overlap wave spring washers

Borrelly has over 90 years of experience in the design, engineering and manufacture of overlap wave springs. We provide highly technical wave springs meeting the requirements of the most demanding applications.

Our range of overlap type single turn wave springs comes in a large selection of thicknesses, bore and rod diameters, number of waves and loading capacities.

The Borrelly Ondufil wave springs can be ordered from stock among our standard and precision ranges, available in both carbon and stainless steel from 10mm to 500mm diameters, or custom-made upon request.

Custom overlap wave spring washers

Thanks to its extensive experience and technical expertise, our Engineering & Design Department can help you in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of custom overlap wave springs meeting your technical requirements, whether they are for protypes, limited series or large runs. Our production workshop, fully integrated with production equipment designed and developed by Borrelly, can produce your own custom wave spring in a very short amount of time.

Technical description

Allowing gains in axial space and a substantial reduction of the number of mechanisms in assemblies, overlapping wave spring washers are designed for low-to-medium levels of force and short deflections. They are particularly suited  to accommodate ball or roller bearings and more generally for applications with highly limited axial space and low clearances.

They are manufactured by simultaneously rolling and corrugating a flat wire. Their overlapping ends make them less prone to tangling and easier to manipulate compared to gap wave springs. While performing similarly to the latter, they have a higher solid height.

Overlap type wave springs such as the Ondufil can be centered in a bore and even allow a slight tightening. They maintain the same diameter, regardless of the crushing height.

Overlap wave springs are a trusted solution for many cases of applications. Below are some examples of their use.

Bearing preload

The preloading of ball bearings is the most common application of overlap wave springs. Used to eliminate the play between the ball bearings and the bearings’ inner and outer races, they allow for the balls to be in contact with the bearing and prevent vibrations by exerting constant pressure on one of the two rings. In addition, they help prolong bearing life and limit bearing noise.

Locking of rings

Overlap type wave springs can also assume a locking function on the ring of bayonets’ multi-pin connectors and be used to prevent the quarter turn ring from loosening or vibrating.
