A new product from Borrelly: the Optimized Belleville Disc Spring: ROB (Rondelle Optimisée Belleville)
This patented design, using a combination of pure traction and compressive stresses, enables considerable weight savings when compared with Belleville disc springs
We use analytical and numerical modelling methods to offer you, in a very short time, a solution in the material best suited to your environment and intended application.
The ROB is based on a spring geometry.
The global geometry is generally a conical shape. The axial compression of the spring flattens the spring, which causes the expansion of the outer ring and the compression of the inner ring and spokes.
Recesses in the spokes give the spring a pliability ensuring a very low bending. The stressed areas are almost pure traction or compression.
Assuming it is properly designed, we can have a traction-stress limit in the outer ring that is equal to the compression-stress limit of the outer ring. This design permits the storage of optimal spring energy.
Going forward, one possible product optimisation would be to replace the outer ring by a succession of straight segments; this would allow this area to be compressed assuming the number of spokes were to be low.
This patented design allows the combined use of traction and compression stresses, and, when compared with the Belleville disc spring, ROB is a reliable solution to save considerable weight.
